30% Club Members in Partnership with Speakers for Schools

The Speakers for Schools Charity provides state schools with free talks from the UK’s leading figures to inspire & empower the next generation. The UK Automotive 30% Club has a partnership with Speakers for Schools and all members have agreed to give an inspiring speech, particularly highlighting that there are fantastic career opportunities for girls in the automotive industry.

Hall Cross Academy in Doncaster were pleased to welcome James Muir as a guest speaker in July (on the last day of term). James spoke to over 60 Year 12 and Year 10 students about the changing landscape of the automotive industry, the 4th Industrial Revolution, implications for careers, and the opportunities available. During the talk James highlighted the opportunities for young women in the industry. The feedback from the Academy was that the “focus on female opportunities seems to have made a real impact.”

Steve Hood, Chairman and CEO, TrustFord spoke to 80+ 12-13 year olds at Broadlands Academy in June 2016. Steve covered what it is like to work in the automotive industry and the types of job roles available. The talk generated positive feedback from the school. “They all really enjoyed it! There were so many spontaneous questions and lots of excitement. Steve created a real buzz around the industry.”

Guest speakers will include Siobhan Hughes Chief Designer, Jaguar Colour & Materials, and Cynthia Charwick-Bland the Inside Out Pathway Tutor, Vehicle Design, Royal College of Art. Julia Muir will also present Automotive Jobs for the future.
