07 May Burrows Motor Company continues to ‘Inspire and Inform’ the next generation of automotive leaders
Now in its third year, the Burrows Search for a Star apprenticeship recruitment programme is continuing to attract young people into the automotive industry.
This Gaia Innovation designed, and managed Search for a Star programme has seen an unprecedented number of students interested in joining Burrows Motor Company as either an apprentice vehicle technician or an apprentice customer service adviser during its 2018/2019 campaign.
As in previous years the programme started with ‘reaching out’ to all secondary schools within the Burrows operating area; this year Worksop was included as Burrows purchased the Toyota franchise in this area in June 2018. The aim of this reach out was to spread the news of Burrows intent, once again, to look for fresh new stars of the future. Such is the power of this programme that we were contacted immediately by many schools asking to us to visit them and speak to their Y11 students about this years apprentice opportunities. Proving that because of the programmes track-record, Burrows are now a local employer of choice for young people.
Throughout this phase of the programme we spoke to circa 1200 students and facilitated positive meaningful interactions between them and the business professionals from Burrows.
We visited the following schools: Sir Thomas Wharton Academy, Trinity Academy, Forge Valley, Wath Comprehensive, The Dearne ALC, Outwood Post 16 Worksop, Retford Oaks and Outwood Valley Academy.
Over 150 students registered their interest in attending an open evening event, which were held at Doncaster and Worksop, to be informed further and inspired to join the retailing side of automotive.
The events were held in January, with many members of the Burrows team either taking part in the evening activities or attending to show their support. As ever the evenings were attended by Steve Burrows, the owner of Burrows, Dean Cooper, Operations Director and all the group General Managers. The events were again designed and managed by Gaia Innovation.
A selection of parent comments from the dealership open evenings:
“Very impressed, I was a little unsure when my son showed interest in this, however I actually now feel this would be a fantastic opportunity and actually suit him down to the ground. Thank you.”
“Fantastic event, great to see the boss, Steve Burrows attend.”
