Thurlow Nunn Welcome Their New Apprentice Stars of 2018

In August 2017, Thurlow Nunn appointed Gaia Innovation to develop a ‘tailor-made’ programme to discover their new stars of the future through a comprehensive apprenticeship recruitment programme.  

 

Gaia Innovation tailored its Search for a Star Apprenticeship Recruitment Programme in order to facilitate the recruitment requirements of Thurlow Nunn.  In addition to their need to recruit both vehicle technician and customer facing apprentices, Thurlow Nunn liked the Search for a Star programme because it provided much more… by enhancing  their corporate social responsibility philosophy and developing relationships within their communities.

The programme began with the Gaia Team, accompanied by members of Thurlow Nunn, visiting secondary schools across the regions to speak to students about the benefits of Thurlow Nunn apprenticeship programmes; career progression within the industry; and how the automotive industry is at the forefront of the 4th Industrial Revolution with well-paid jobs of the future.  Some of the schools visited included Manshead CE School (Luton), Stantonbury Campus (Milton Keynes), City Academy (Norwich) and Springwood Academy (King’s Lynn).

Interested students then attended a Dealership Open Evening along with a parent/guardian to hear more about working life and career progression within a retailing environment.  In addition, the students met with trainers from the Vauxhall Academy to hear more about vehicle technician and customer service apprenticeships, parents had their questions answered by Thurlow Nunn senior management team and the students participated in a career speed networking session where they got to ask questions to Thurlow Nunn team members about their jobs and career paths, and what they particularly enjoyed about their jobs.

The next stage of the programme was an Employability Skills Training and Assessment Day, where the students were involved in discussions about issues such as positive body language, appearance, transferable skills and good interview techniques.  The day concluded with each of the students having a job interview with Thurlow Nunn personnel.

The final stage of the programme involved selected students being involved in a week’s work experience, from which the successful Stars were selected to work for Thurlow Nunn.  In total 14 students were recruited across the Thurlow Nunn Vauxhall network.
